Underlying Factors of Sense of Community in Asynchronous Computer Supported Collaborative Learning Environments

چکیده
Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) incorporates collaborative learning activities and communication between participants and among groups via networked computers, where interactions can be synchronous or asynchronous (Naidu & Ja ̈rvela, 2006). The ubiquitous characteristic of CSCL environments, combined with their interactive group learning capabilities is becoming more and more important in education (Strijbos & Weinberger, 2009; Janssen, Erkens, Kanselaar, & Jaspers 2006; Kreijns, Kirschner, & Jochems, 2002). Yet, while technologically those environments have considerably improved over recent years, studies have shown that the social dimension of CSCL is often neglected or assumed it will arise by default in these virtual learning environments (Kreijns, Kirschner, & Jochems, 2003). It is also reported that although such environments offer a variety of benefits, learners’ isolation Abstract

Impact of Dynamic Assessment on the Writing Performance of English as Foreign Language Learners in Asynchronous Web 2.0 and Face-to-face Environments
This study sought to investigate dynamic assessment (DA) - an assessment approach that embeds inter- vention within the assessment process and that yields information about the learner’s responsiveness to this intervention - and the writing performance of the second language (L2) learners in Web 2.0 contexts. To this end, pre and post-treatment writings of 45 par...
متن کاملDisTriB: Distributed Trust Management Model Based on Gossip Learning and Bayesian Networks in Collaborative Computing Systems
The interactions among peers in Peer-to-Peer systems as a distributed collaborative system are based on asynchronous and unreliable communications. Trust is an essential and facilitating component in these interactions specially in such uncertain environments. Various attacks are possible due to large-scale nature and openness of these systems that affects the trust. Peers has not enough inform...

متن کاملInvestigating Dynamic Writing Assessment in a Web 2.0 Asynchronous Collaborative Computer-Mediated Context
This study aims at investigating the effect of dynamic assessment (DA) on L2 writing achievement if applied via blogging as a Web 2.0 tool, as well as examining which pattern of interaction is more conducive to learning in such an environment. The results of the study indicate that using weblogs to provide mediation contributes to the enhancement of the overall writing performance, vocabulary a...
متن کاملThe Impact of Mediational Artifact Types on EFL Learners’ Writing Complexity: Collaboration vs. Asynchronous Artifacts
The present study was an attempt to investigate the significance of environmental changes on the develo p- ment of writing in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context with respect to the individual. This study also compared the impacts of collaboration and asynchronous computer mediation (ACM) on the writing complexity of EFL learners. To this end, three intact writing classes were designate...
